This week has been filled with both victories and frustrations. Kristin and I have started Bible Clubs at Pastor Sambo’s church for kids that cannot afford to go to school. We hope to teach them English, the alphabet, numbers, and Bible lessons. I’m glad to be working to reach such an important need, but it sure is hard. The kids don’t know any English and are not used to sitting still and paying attention. They are used to white people coming to play, not to teach. We still play and hug but we hope to also accomplish some of our goals. We are getting advice from some teachers in the area which is helpful and are slowly gathering resources such as workbooks used in standard schools, notebooks for the kids, and crayons.
After we get done there, we head up to the care point to help Treasure with anything she needs for us to get done. Sometimes we sort through their store room organizing donations, help the children who are behind in their lessons, prepare lessons for her, or just hang out with the kids.
I have other praises from the week. I think I have found what I will make my home church for while I’m here. It’s called Living Waters and it only a 15 minute walk from the house. The service is in English which is such a blessing because the translators are often difficult to understand. They have a projector with the words for the songs and real pews. I feel so spoiled.
On Saturday, our team went out to the rural area to clear some land for a care point for some of the neediest kids in that community. We used machetes and I had a blast. I felt so Africa.
A couple of my friends and I went to meet our neighbors yesterday and had a wonderful time. They are an older couple from South Africa. They came to Swaziland during the apartheid. Because of the color of their skin, they could not own the land that had been in the family for years. They told us a lot of history and shared about their family. It was a wonderful visit.
Thank you for all your prayers and support. Please pray for our Bible Clubs. Pray for the children who are absolutely precious. Please pray that I don’t fall too much in love with these kids. I want my heart to always belong to Jesus. I want to be in love with him and that love to fuel the love for Africa. Pray that my heart belongs to who died for it. Thank you so much. And may God bless.
I added a couple pictures. If you would like to see them, just click on “Browse My Photos” to the left.
